今日はクリスマスイブのミサに教会に行きました。
今日の聖書の御言葉は、

神父様が言うにはこれをそのまま歌にしたのが

ここだけ切り取ると後付けのようにも聞こえますが、よくよく聞くとまさにその通りです。
クリスマスの時期には色々なクリスマスソングがありますが、レットイットビーもありなのだと。むしろど真ん中？

感想
信仰心とクリスマスは一旦別物として、
立場や心情によって、こうも言葉の意味が変わるものかと思います。
受験英語をしていたころ、どうも意味が分からず、先生の翻訳にもいまいち納得ができなかったのを思い出しますが、１９６０年代のヒットソングがまさかの福音朗読。クリスマスソング。化 or か？ と
